The Best Free Golf Games to Play Online

· 5 min read

"Free golf game" covers a lot of ground. Some are full 3D simulations with real courses. Some are two-minute browser toys. Most of the popular ones are free to download but built around timers, energy bars and loot boxes. This round-up sorts them by what you actually want from a session, and says plainly where each one makes its money.

We make Mashy, so it's on the list. We've tried to be as straight about it as about everything else.

How we picked

Every game here is free to start. We looked at five things:

  • Time to first shot: how long from opening it to hitting a ball.
  • The golf itself: does club choice, wind and the lie matter, or is it just power and aim?
  • Session length: can you finish something in five minutes?
  • How it makes money: one-off purchases, ads, or pay-to-win upgrades.
  • Playing with friends: live matches, async challenges or shared leaderboards.

Mashy: best for a quick, real round in your browser

Mashy is a pixel-art pitch and putt. Each course is nine short holes played with irons, wedges and a putter, from a top-down 3/4 view. You swing with a three-tap meter: start the swing, set the power, then time the strike. Miss early and the ball draws left, miss late and it fades right. Putting is drag-and-release, and the greens have real slopes.

What's good: there's nothing to install and no sign-up before your first hole. Tap TEE OFF and you're on the tee. A hole takes a minute or two, so a full nine fits in a coffee break. There are five courses (parkland, doglegs, seaside links, clifftops and pine forest), a daily course with the same pins and wind for everyone, closest-to-the-pin, and practice. Friends can compare scores in the clubhouse.

Worth knowing: there are no drivers or 500-yard par 5s. It's short-game golf by design. Saving scores across devices takes an email address (we send a six-digit code, no password). Purchases are one-off outfits and clubs with no subscription, and you can play every mode without paying.

WGT Golf: best for real courses

WGT (World Golf Tour) has been around since the browser-game days and is known for its photo-real recreations of famous courses. If you want to play a recognisable hole rather than an invented one, it's the obvious pick.

Worth knowing: it's a big download, and progress and equipment are tied to its in-game economy.

Golf Clash: best for head-to-head matches

Golf Clash is a fast 1v1 game in which you and an opponent play the same hole at the same time. Matches are short, and reading the wind and choosing a ball is genuinely tactical.

Worth knowing: club and ball upgrades come from chests, and serious play leans heavily on them. It suits people who enjoy a long-term progression game more than people who want a quick, even contest.

Golf Blitz: best for chaos with friends

Golf Blitz is real-time multiplayer: everyone plays at once, races to sink their putt first and uses power-ups to mess with each other. It's closer to a party game than a golf sim, and it's very good at that.

Worth knowing: it rewards fast reactions more than course management, and has the usual unlock and upgrade loop.

Super Stickman Golf 3: best side-on arcade golf

A side-scrolling golf game with wild, platform-style levels, spin control and a turn-based mode for playing friends asynchronously. If you like the look of golf as a physics puzzle, it's a classic of the genre.

Mini Golf King: best for mini golf

If you mean putt-putt rather than golf (windmills, ramps, bank shots), Mini Golf King and similar apps are a better fit than any of the above. We wrote a whole piece on mini golf vs pixel golf if you're not sure which you're after.

Browser game portals

Sites like Poki and CrazyGames host dozens of small free golf games that run instantly in the browser. Quality varies a lot, but they're a good way to try different styles (minimal one-button golf, mini golf, physics golf) without installing anything. Expect ads between rounds.

Which free golf game should you play?

  • You have five minutes and want real golf shots: Mashy.
  • You want famous courses: WGT Golf.

If you're new to the scoring side, golf scoring explained covers par, birdies and bogeys in a couple of minutes.
