Tips for running a golf quiz

  • Read each question twice and give a set time to answer, such as 30 seconds.
  • Play in teams of two to four, so beginners can join in.
  • Use a tie-breaker that needs a number, such as "In what year did Jack Nicklaus win his sixth and final Masters?" (1986). Closest wins.
  • Mix in a golf challenge between rounds, like a putting contest or a round of a golf game.

Frequently asked questions

What are some easy golf trivia questions for beginners?

Good easy questions include how many holes are in a standard round (18), what golfers shout as a warning (fore), what colour jacket the Masters winner wears (green), and what a score of one under par is called (a birdie). These work well as warm-ups before harder rounds.

Who has won the most golf majors?

Jack Nicklaus has won the most men's major championships, with 18, followed by Tiger Woods with 15. The men's majors are the Masters, the PGA Championship, the US Open and the Open. In the women's game, Patty Berg holds the record with 15 major titles.

Why does a round of golf have 18 holes?

The Old Course at St Andrews, the most influential course in early golf, was reduced from 22 holes to 18 in 1764. Other courses gradually followed its lead, and 18 holes became the standard length of a round. Many shorter courses, including pitch and putt courses, have 9 holes instead.

How many golf trivia questions should a quiz have?

For a casual party, four rounds of five questions takes about 30 to 40 minutes with marking. For a full quiz night, six to eight rounds of ten questions works well, with a short break or a game in between to keep the energy up.

Has anyone played golf on the Moon?

Yes. Astronaut Alan Shepard hit golf balls on the Moon in 1971 during the Apollo 14 mission. He used a six-iron club head attached to a tool handle and hit two balls, a moment shown on television back on Earth.

Nine short holes. Irons, chips and putts. Free in your browser, no download.
